Shri Saraswati Stotram

Shri Saraswati Stotram (popularly known by its immortal opening line Yā Kuṇḍendu-Tuṣāra-Hāra-Dhavalā) is the primary hymn dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the divine embodiment of knowledge (Vidya), speech (Vak), memory (Smriti), and fine arts (Kala).

In Sanatana Dharma, Goddess Saraswati is depicted dressed in pure white silk, seated on a white lotus, holding the Veena (string instrument), sacred scriptures (Vedas), and a crystal rosary (Japamala). She represents the pure, untainted light of Supreme Consciousness (Jnana).

Reciting the Saraswati Stotram before studying, appearing for examinations, or practicing music and arts invokes divine clarity, sharp memory, poetic eloquence, and academic excellence.

• Verse 1: May Saraswati protect me, who is white like jasmine and snow, holding the Veena, worshipped by Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva.
• Verse 2: Salutations to Sharada, supreme Brahman form, all-pervading, holding book and crystal rosary, bestower of intellect.
• Verse 3: O Saraswati! Bestower of boons, I begin my studies; grant me success always!
• Verses 4–5: O lotus-eyed Saraswati, grant me knowledge! May Goddess of speech illuminate my intellect.
