Author & Composer
The Lalita Sahasranamam holds a unique place in scriptures. It was composed by the Eight Vag-Devatas (Goddesses of Speech: Vashini and others) created by Divine Mother Lalita. They composed these 1000 names to express the infinite glories of Lalita Ambika in perfect poetic harmony.
This stotram was revealed by Lord Hayagriva (the horse-necked Avatar of Vishnu who presides over supreme wisdom) to Maharshi Agastya (the chief of Siddhas and Srividya practitioner) in the Brahmanda Purana.
Spiritual Significance
Shri Lalita Sahasranamam is the central pillar of Srividya Upasana:
- The Four Divine Weapons: Verse 2 and 3 describe Mother's four hands holding:
- Pasha (Noose) representing attachment/desire (Raga)
- Ankusha (Goad) representing anger/aversion (Krodha)
- Ikshu-Kodanda (Sugarcane Bow) representing the mind (Manas)
- Pancha-Bana (Five Flower Arrows) representing the five senses (Tanmatras)
- Srichakra & Kundalini Yoga: The 1000 names systematically describe the awakening of Kundalini energy from Muladhara to Sahasrara chakra, uniting Shiva and Shakti.
- Non-Repetitive Perfection: Unlike other Sahasranamams where names may repeat in different contexts, Lalita Sahasranamam contains zero duplicate names—all 1000 names are unique!
