Shri Guru Paduka Stotram

Shri Guru Paduka Stotram (literally meaning "Hymn to the Holy Sandals of the Sadguru") is a 9-verse devotional hymn composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya in praise of the Guru's Sandals (Guru Paduka).

In Sanatana Dharma, the Guru Paduka is considered the physical embodiment of the Sadguru's divine grace, knowledge, and dispassion. It acts as the boat that carries seekers across the endless ocean of worldly existence (Ananta Samsara Samudra).

Each verse praises the Guru's sandals for granting devotion, destroying ego, bestowing dispassion (Vairagya), awakening Kundalini energy, and leading to Self-realization. Each verse concludes with the reverent refrain: "Namo Namaḥ Śrī-Guru-Pādukābhyām" ("Salutations again and again to the holy sandals of the Sadguru!").

• Verse 1: Salutations to Guru's sandals, the boat crossing samsara, bestower of devotion and dispassion kingdom.
• Verse 2: Salutations to Guru's sandals, ocean of poetic wisdom, raincloud quenching misfortune's fire.
• Verses 3–8: Salutations to sandals worshipped by kings, sun to darkness, sun to poverty fire, grantor of Self-realization.
• Verse 9 (Phalashruti): Reciting with devotion frees from sins and grants Guru Loka.

Spiritual Significance

Guru Paduka Stotram is the anthem of Guru Bhakti:

1. Boat across Samsara: Compares the Guru's sandals to a sturdy boat (Nauka) crossing the ocean of birth and death.
2. Raincloud over Forest Fire: Compares Padukas to rainclouds quenching the forest fire of misfortune (Daurbhagya-Dava).

• Crossing the Ocean of Samsara (Samsara Tarana): Delivers the seeker from worldly anxieties, attachment, and fear.

• Eradication of Ego and Pride (Ahankara Nashana): Melts spiritual pride and purifies the intellect.
• Attainment of Sadguru Grace and Moksha: Grants unshakeable devotion to the Guru's feet and ultimate liberation.
