Shri Ardhanarishwara Stotram

Shri Ardhanarishwara Stotram (literally meaning "Hymn to the Half-Female Lord") is an 8-verse devotional masterpiece composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya.

It praises the unique and mystical composite form of Ardhanarishwara, where the left half of the divine body is Goddess Parvati (Shakti) and the right half is Lord Shiva (Shiva). This form symbolizes the complete non-duality and interdependence of the feminine principle (Prakriti) and masculine principle (Purusha) in cosmic creation.

Each verse contrasts the attributes of Mother Parvati on the left with Lord Shiva on the right, ending with the glorious chorus: "Namaḥ Śivāyai Ca Namaḥ Śivāya" ("Salutations to Goddess Śivā and salutations to Lord Śiva!").
