Shri Vedasara Shiva Stotram
Introduction
Shri Vedasara Shiva Stotram (literally meaning "The Hymn Containing the Essence of Vedas on Lord Shiva") is an 11-verse devotional masterpiece composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya.
As the name implies, Shankaracharya extracted the philosophical core of the four Vedas, Upanishads, and Sri Rudram, distilling them into 11 poetic stanzas. The stotram praises Lord Shiva as Pasupati (Lord of all living beings), the destroyer of sins, the inner Self, and the ruler of creation.
Each verse flows with rhythmic beauty, ending with the sacred refrain: "Paśūnāṃ Patiṃ Pāpanāśaṃ Paresham" or "Girīśaṃ Gaṇeśaṃ Gale Nīla-Varṇam" ("I bow to Lord Shiva, the Master of souls, destroyer of sins, Supreme Ruler!").
