Shri Sri Suktam
Introduction
Shri Sri Suktam (Rigveda Khilani 10.128) is the most ancient, holy, and celebrated Vedic hymn dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi (Sri Devi).
In this hymn, the Vedic Rishi invokes Agni (Fire God) to bring Goddess Sri—golden-hued (Hiranya-Varna), radiant like gold, deer-like in grace (Harini), wearing silver and gold necklaces (Suvarna-Rajata-Sraja)—into his home and heart.
The Sri Suktam invokes Mother Lakshmi to BANISH Her elder sister Alakshmi (misfortune, poverty, hunger, thirst, and envy) from the household and replace Her with eternal abundance, food, cattle, righteous progeny, and spiritual illumination.
