Shri Navagraha Kavacham
Introduction
Shri Navagraha Kavacham (literally meaning "The Armor of the Nine Planetary Deities") is an astrological protective hymn composed by Sage Veda Vyasa in the Brahmanda Purana.
In Vedic astrology (Jyotish), each of the nine grahas governs specific organs, nerve centers, and physiological systems of the human body. The Navagraha Kavacham assigns the nine planetary deities—Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu—to shield every part of the human body.
Reciting this Kavacham creates a 9-fold planetary shield around the practitioner, neutralizing all malefic planetary transits (Graha Doshams), preventing accidents, curing diseases, and bestowing long life, health, and peace.
Benefits of Recitation (Phalashruti)
According to scriptural tradition and verse 10 of this stotram, daily recitation of Shri Navagraha Kavacham grants the following blessings:
- Complete Shield against Malefic Planetary Doshams: Neutralizes Sade Sati, Rahu-Ketu Mahadasha, and Kantaka Shani.
- Physical Health and Organ Protection: Shields head, eyes, heart, throat, stomach, thighs, and feet from diseases.
- Protection from Accidents and Unexpected Dangers: Destroys bad dreams, night terrors, and hostile forces.
- Attainment of Longevity and Domestic Peace: Bestows family harmony, financial stability, and long life.
