Shri Gopalaka Vimsati Stotram
Introduction
Shri Gopalaka Vimsati Stotram (literally meaning "Twenty Verses to Lord Gopala") is a magnificent 20-verse Sanskrit hymn composed by Swami Sri Vedanta Desika (1268–1369 CE), one of the greatest polymath philosophers and saints of the Sri Vaishnava tradition.
Legend states that Vedanta Desika composed this stotram while visiting the famous temple of Rajagopalaswamy at Thiruvendipuram (or Mannargudi). Filled with deep devotion, Desika describes Lord Gopala's divine childhood in Vrindavan, His peacock feather crown, His sweet flute music, His stealing of butter, and His supreme mercy towards devotees.
The stotram begins with the celebrated opening line: "Vande Vṛndāvanacāraṃ Śrīmad-Vakṣassthala-Sthitam" ("I bow to Lord Gopala who wanders in Vrindavan, on whose chest Goddess Lakshmi resides!").
