Shri Ganesha Atharvashirsha Upanishad
Introduction
Shri Ganesha Atharvashirsha (also known as Sri Ganapati Upanishad) is a sacred Vedic Upanishad embedded in the Atharvaveda, composed by Sage Ganaka.
It is the most authoritative scriptural text of the Ganapatya tradition, establishing Lord Ganesha not merely as a remover of obstacles, but as Parabrahma—the Supreme Cosmic Being who is the creator (Srishti), sustainer (Sthiti), and dissolver (Laya) of the entire universe.
The Upanishad contains the sacred Ganapati Gayatri Mantra (Ekadantāya Vidmahe Vakratuṇḍāya Dhīmahi Tanno Dantiḥ Pracodayāt) and the Ganesha Vidya Bija Mantra (Gaṃ). Reciting it bestows absolute purity, health, freedom from all sins, and spiritual liberation.
Benefits of Recitation (Phalashruti)
According to scriptural declaration in the Atharvaveda, daily chanting of Shri Ganesha Atharvashirsha grants extraordinary blessings:
- Eradication of All Sins and Obstacles: Cleanses sins of speech, mind, body, and past karmas.
- Grant of Supreme Intellect and Wisdom: Enhances Vedic learning, memory, and spiritual intuition.
- Fulfillment of All Righteous Desires (Sarva Kama Phala): Bestows health, wealth, food abundance, and prosperity.
