Shri Aditya Kavacham
Introduction
Shri Aditya Kavacham (literally meaning "The Armor of the Sun God") is a divine protective solar hymn revealed by Sage Yagnavalkya in the Skanda Purana and Bhavishya Purana.
In Vedic tradition, Lord Surya (Aditya) is worshipped as the direct visible God (Pratyaksha Devata), the soul of all living beings (Surya Atma Jagatas-Tasthushashcha), and the bestower of health, eyesight, vitality, and royal honor (Arogyam Bhaskarad Ichhet).
The Aditya Kavacham assigns the solar names (Surya, Bhaskara, Ravi, Martanda, Divakara, Prabhakara) to protect every part of the human body, shielding the practitioner from eye diseases, heart ailments, bone weakness, and negative energy.
