Author & Composer

Sri Adi Shankaracharya (788–820 CE) was the consolidated founder of Advaita Vedanta philosophy and one of India's greatest spiritual teachers. Born in Kalady, Kerala, Shankaracharya revitalized Sanatana Dharma across the subcontinent.

In addition to writing profound commentaries on the Prasthanatrayi (Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, and Brahma Sutras), Shankaracharya composed numerous devotional stotrams dedicated to Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha, Surya, and Devi, making complex spiritual concepts accessible through pure devotion (Bhakti).

Spiritual Significance

The Ganesha Pancharatnam holds deep esoteric significance in Sanatana Dharma:

  1. Symbolism of Modaka: The sweet modaka in Lord Ganesha's hand symbolizes the joy of self-realization (Ananda) attained through spiritual discipline.
  2. The Inner Controller: Verse 5 praises Ganesha as residing continuously in the hearts of yogis (Hṛdaṃtare Nirantaraṃ Vasaṃtam-Eva Yogināṃ), representing the inner Guru and Supreme Consciousness.
  3. Harmonizer of Sects: Through the Panchayatana form of worship, Shankaracharya established Lord Ganesha as the primary deity to be worshipped before initiating any Vedic ritual.
